December 14, 2015 – The TownePlace Suites by Marriott Wareham Buzzards Bay hotel and Rosebrook Event Center helped to make the season bright for local families in the region. The hotel hosted a food drive on behalf of the Hunger Commission of the United Way of New Bedford and also donated extra toiletry items to Operation G.R.A.B. (Gratitude Requires Action Back) Bag Project for the First Baptist Church in Fall River, MA.
During the month of November the hotel collected sixty-five pounds of food that was delivered to area distribution centers in need. “The Hunger Commission works hard year round to collect and deliver food to local pantries in the SouthCoast,” says Victoria Grasela, Marketing and Community Relations Officer. “The food that was collected came at a time of need as the colder months and holiday season draw near. According to the Greater Boston Food Bank, 1 in 9 living in Eastern Mass do not know where their next meal will come from. Food drives are a great way to help change the odds and feed people in our community.”
Additionally, in collaboration with the staff of Rochester Memorial School and Marion Dental Associates, the hotel also donated extra toiletry items to Operation G.R.A.B. (Gratitude Requires Action Back) Bag Project. The initiative supports adults and children requiring the services of the Fall River Overflow Shelter and over 50 bags were filled with toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, socks, mittens, gloves, toiletries, creature comforts, and crayons (for the kids). These, along with extra supplies of clothing and personal hygiene products, were given to the First Baptist Church, 228 N Main Street, Fall River, MA. During the winter, The Fall River Overflow Shelter assists in providing overnight shelter for the homeless community during the colder months of the year.
